About the Department:

The Department of Persian at Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University is an important seat of Persian Studies. It was established in the year 1992 but got operational in the year 2008.

The department has been proudly serving the country and working towards the cause of patriotism, composite culture, universal brotherhood, and coexistence by deciphering new horizons through its research for the last decade.

It has been a great privilege to have a Padm Shri Prof. Sharfe Alam, an emminet Persian scholar as the first vice Chancellor of this university. In addition Prof. Idd Muhammad Ansari another eminent Persian professor served this university as its pro vice chancellor.

The department imparts teaching in Persian language and literature Manuscript ology, document reading and translation, epigraphy, numismatics, historiography (particularly medieval Indian history), Indo-Persian literature, Sufi poets, cultural studies, comparative linguistics, and modern trends in Persian language, literature, and culture are the main areas of focus for research in Persian language and literature.

Future Plan:

To offer new professional courses like epigraphy and manuscript logy.

Publication of a manuscript about Indian painting, art history, and culture.

Publication of the Tazkeras, or collections of poetry, written by Indian Persian poets, writers, and Sufis.

To present a special investigation on Abdul-Qādir Bēdil and Sharfuddin yahya Maneri and Sabk-e- Hindi.

To present intensive classes on spoken Persian.

To Encouragement of multidisciplinary studies.

To invite distinguished Persian experts to give talks.
